Ultimate Solution: Google Unveils Fixes for Chromecast Malfunctions, Resolving Connectivity Issues for All Users Including Factory Reset Scenarios

The latest progress on the issue with Chromecast Gen 2 and Chromecast Audio is that they were unable to function with a warning message stating “untrusted device” after Google announced they were releasing updates to fix it. Google now assures users that they can use Chromecast normally after releasing the latest firmware version. If users still encounter issues, they are advised to reboot the device to trigger the firmware update.

For users who performed a Factory Reset, which resulted in the inability to set up a new device, Google recommends updating the Google Home app on their smartphones to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) and then reinstalling the device to successfully set it up. The app is currently being updated gradually, so some users may not see the latest update in the store yet.

Google apologizes to users for the inconvenience and promises to resolve the issue promptly.

TLDR: Google has addressed the issue with Chromecast Gen 2 and Chromecast Audio, advising users to update their devices and apps to the latest versions to resolve any issues.
