Micron has unveiled the Micron 6550 ION SSD, a PCIe Gen5 device boasting the highest read/write speeds in the world. With sequential read speeds up to 12,000 MB/s, sequential write speeds at 5,000 MB/s, and random read speeds at 1,600 KIOPS.
This SSD is constructed with Micron G8 TLC NAND, surpassing competitors by 1-3 generations and using its own chips almost entirely, from NAND and DRAM to the controller and firmware development.
The Micron 6550 ION sub-models come in 6 options, with 3 form factors to choose from – U.2, E1.L, and E3.S-1T, offering two capacities of 30.72TB and 61.44TB. Samples are now available for delivery.
