There have been reports from the South China Morning Post citing sources claiming that Apple has been collaborating with BYD for several years to develop long-range batteries for remote use. This initiative began in 2017 with the development of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that are safer and more durable than traditional electric vehicle batteries at that time.
It is already known that Apple’s project to develop electric self-driving vehicles has been cancelled, so the joint development of this technology is likely to have been discontinued as well. However, it is confirmed information that Apple’s approach involves developing multiple technologies, including batteries.
Sources indicate that part of BYD’s current Blade battery technology came from the collaborative battery development process with Apple, although all patents are owned by BYD.

TLDR: Apple and BYD have been working together on long-range batteries, with BYD incorporating some of Apple’s technology into their Blade batteries.
