CNBC reported that Meta is planning to launch a new app specifically for the use of Meta AI. It is expected that this app will be released in the second quarter of this year to align with the company’s strategy to become a leader in AI this year.
Meta introduced the Meta AI service as a chatbot back in 2023, which is capable of familiar chatbot AI functions such as conversation interactions, providing information, and creating images based on input. They have since integrated Meta AI into the social services of Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, allowing Meta AI to reach millions of existing users instantly.
The idea of creating a separate app for Meta AI is not new, as CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously responded to user feedback on Threads suggesting the development of a separate Meta AI app. This was seen as a way to help users manage their data, customize the models used, and handle hardware connections all in one place. CNBC reports that Meta also has ideas to launch a subscription service for increased usage, similar to other companies’ chatbot AI services.
Currently, major technology companies have been releasing separate apps to provide AI chatbot services, including Google’s Gemini and the recent Grok by xAI. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, believes they may need to directly compete if Meta does release a separate Meta AI app. He jokingly suggests that perhaps they should create a social app to challenge them in return.
Meta has chosen not to comment on these reports.
TLDR: Meta plans to launch a new app for Meta AI, aiming to solidify their position as an AI leader. This move could spark competition in the AI chatbot service sector.
