Uncovering Astounding Speedrunning Records in Diablo: A Fictitious 3 Minutes and 12 Seconds Achievement.

The realm of speedrunning encounters a new dilemma following an investigation into Groobo’s speedrun of the original Diablo game, where he set a record time of just 3 minutes and 12 seconds back in 2009, deemed impressive. However, Allan “DwangoAC” Cecil has now stepped in to inspect and found this achievement to be unattainable.

Groobo’s game had several strokes of luck, notably acquiring Naj’s Puzzler as early as level 9, granting a significant amount of teleport power that affected the game’s speed. Cecil employed tool-assisted speedrunning (TAS) tools to aid in the speedrun, with the team developing the mapgen tool to generate maps from initial seed values. The process of creating save files took an estimated 2 billion possible values, revealing no instance of Naj’s Puzzler at level 9 and suggesting possible splicing of gameplay segments with varying seeds.

Initially, Groobo stated that he played the game multiple times in succession and clarified that he did not submit this speedrun for any competition (each having its unique set of rules). However, obtaining Naj’s Puzzler so early on could indicate extensive game manipulation rather than straightforward gameplay alterations.

Cecil noted that Groobo’s speedrunning feat, widely believed to be legitimate, caused the speedrunning community to shift focus away from Diablo. Presently, the only confirmed record for completing the game stands at 5 minutes completed just 6 months ago, prompting the speedrunning community to question those surpassing the latest records.

Groobo has secured a spot in the Guinness World Record as the fastest RPG game player globally and continues to hold speedrun records for many other games to this day.

TLDR: Groobo’s speedrun of Diablo comes under scrutiny, with tool-assisted methods revealing potential game manipulation, causing a shift in the speedrunning community’s focus. Groobo holds several speedrun records, including earning a spot in the Guinness World Record for fastest RPG player.
