United States Senate Proposes Draft Law to Ban the Use of DJI Drones, Approved by Committee Vote

The ban on Chinese products and services has sparked significant interest, especially after the enforcement of the TikTok ban. However, it seems that the focus is not solely on TikTok.

Elise Stefanik, a US Republican congresswoman, is currently introducing the Countering CCP Drones Act, targeting drones from China, particularly those of DJI.

This new legislation aims to amend the existing Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019, which banned the use of foreign network equipment (such as Huawei and ZTE) by adding drones as another type of communication device. It specifically names the company Shenzhen Da-Jiang Innovations Sciences and Technologies Company Limited (the full name of DJI) as one of the companies to be banned.

Stefanik has been proposing this legislation since 2022, and the latest development sees the bill advancing further as it has been approved by the House of Energy and Commerce Committee. The next step is to present it to the House of Representatives.

In response to this proposed legislation, DJI has released a statement on their company blog, asserting that their drones do not secretly collect any data and are not linked to the Chinese military, emphasizing that they do not manufacture drones for military purposes.
