Unmanned Mini Bus Test Drive: Running at 120 km/h without Recharging. Tested and Safe!

Renault has joined forces with WeRide to test a driverless minibus prototype in Barcelona, offering free passenger transportation over a 2.2 km circular route with 4 stops. The vehicle is equipped with 10 cameras and 8 sensors for navigation.

During the test, officials reported no accidents despite mixed feedback from passengers in Valence, France. Tests are also ongoing in Zurich Airport, with no official conclusions drawn yet.

This driverless minibus can travel up to 120 km without charging and reach speeds of 40 km/h, presenting an efficient and cost-effective alternative with low carbon emissions per passenger kilometer.

Compared to other public transport options, it offers increased flexibility and operates safely 24/7 with remote control monitoring of all vehicles. While Europe trails behind the US and China in driverless technology, Renault aims to succeed by prioritizing urban safety innovations.
