After Meta began labeling content as “Made with AI” on their own platform back in May, it now seems that distinguishing between real photos edited with AI tools and images created entirely with AI will no longer be possible. TechCrunch reported that some real images on IG have been tagged as “Made with AI,” likely due to the use of AI editing tools which triggered the system to assume they were solely AI-generated. For instance, photographers using Adobe’s AI tools to remove objects from photos found their work labeled as AI-generated, causing confusion.
On the other hand, some photographers argue that whether a photo is entirely AI-generated or simply edited with AI tools, it should be labeled as such for transparency’s sake. However, what is concerning is that while some genuine photos are labeled as AI-generated, there are AI-created images flying under the radar without any such label. This situation has inadvertently led to more confusion among users than Meta initially intended.
TLDR: Meta’s labeling of content as “Made with AI” has blurred the line between real and AI-generated images, causing confusion and raising transparency concerns among users.
