Unscheduled Return to Earth for Starliner after Discovery of Hydrogen Leak

Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is currently undergoing Crew Flight Test (CFT) but it seems that after the spacecraft docked with the International Space Station, the team discovered a helium gas leak and efficiency issues with the propulsion system, prompting NASA to review data before allowing the spacecraft to return to Earth.

Originally scheduled to return today (June 26), the lack of readiness has resulted in a delay, and a spacewalk schedule adjustment. In the meantime, both astronauts aboard the Starliner may have the opportunity to carry out additional tasks as assigned. Additionally, in case of emergencies, NASA has approved the use of the Starliner for evacuation.

NASA stated that there is no rush to bring the Starliner back to Earth as supplies are sufficient, and ISS’s schedule is open until mid-August.

TLDR: Boeing’s Starliner faces delays due to a gas leak and propulsion issues, with NASA approving additional tasks and potential emergency evacuation on the spacecraft.
