Unveiling Civilization VII: Evolving Cultures Across Eras, Empower Leadership Choices, Available February 2025

2K Games and Firaxis have unveiled the trailer for Civilization VII, showcasing full gameplay and announcing the release date of February 11, 2025 on all platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The game supports cross-play multiplayer across platforms.

The core gameplay of Civilization VII follows the traditional path of the series—exploration, civilization building, technological advancement, and warfare—utilizing the familiar hexagonal grid map. The graphics have been elevated to a stunning level, with the acclaimed actress Gwendoline Christie (known for Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones and Captain Phasma in Star Wars) serving as the game’s narrator.

A new gameplay format introduced in the 7th installment is the Ages system, divided into three eras: Antiquity Age focusing on city states, Exploration Age emphasizing resource exploration and territorial expansion, and Modern Age prioritizing technological advancement. Each civilization is allocated unique units, buildings, technologies, and advancements according to the era, enhancing gameplay balance. Age Transition expands the map and allows players to switch civilizations based on previous era conditions.

Another innovation in Civilization VII is the Leaders system, where players can choose leaders without restrictions based on ethnicity or civilization (e.g. selecting Cleopatra to lead a Chinese culture). This allows players to blend specific leader skills with any available civilization, diversifying gameplay.

Sample civilization changes when transitioning eras by choosing Cleopatra as the leader:
– Antiquity Age: Playing as Egypt with unlockable civilizations for the Exploration Age
– Exploration Age: Playing as Songhai with unlockable new era civilizations
– Modern Age: Playing as Buganda

Civilization VII has only revealed a few civilizations and leaders to date, with more information to be gradually disclosed before the game’s release.

The game offers three editions:
– Standard Edition: $59.99 (Switch) and $69.99 (other platforms)
– Deluxe Edition: $89.99 (Switch) and $99.99 (other platforms) with early access privileges and certain DLC content
– Founders Edition: $119.99 (Switch) and $129.99 (other platforms) including additional DLC content from Deluxe Edition

TLDR: Civilization VII introduces new gameplay elements such as the Ages system and Leaders system, allowing for diverse and strategic gameplay experiences. The game offers three editions with varying content and pricing options.
