Remedy Entertainment has unveiled their latest game, FBC: Firebreak, a three-player co-op FPS set in the same universe as the game Control. Known as the first multiplayer game from Remedy, it was initially codenamed Project Condor and had trademark news for FBC: Firebreak earlier this year. The acronym FBC stands for Federal Bureau of Control, the organization that attempts to manage supernatural events in the game Control and also plays a role in Alan Wake 2.
The storyline of FBC: Firebreak revolves around The Oldest House, the main headquarters of the FBC organization, which is threatened by dangers from other worlds. Players are tasked with assuming the role of the Firebreak unit to quell these disturbances. The game adopts Control’s concept of using the environment or objects in the scene as weapons, but the presentation is more accessible, with graphics leaning towards a cartoonish style rather than the mysterious and realistic tone of Control. The events in the game take place after Control, but players do not need to have played Control extensively to understand the story.
The development team at Remedy highlights that Firebreak is designed for easy and enjoyable gameplay with friends, requiring minimal learning time and allowing players to jump in when they have free time. It does not require daily logins to collect items like other live service games do, but the team will continue to update the content regularly.
The game is expected to be released by 2025 on platforms such as PC (Steam/Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and will also be available on Game Pass. Remedy has stated that it will be priced at a mid-range level, but the exact pricing has not been announced yet.
TLDR: Remedy Entertainment introduces FBC: Firebreak, a three-player co-op FPS set in the Control universe, offering accessible gameplay and cartoonish graphics, scheduled for release by 2025 on various platforms at a mid-range price point.
