Unveiling Game Developers Cooking Up Fake Self-Cloning Game Helldivers 2 to Deceive Players on Steam

Information from SteamDB has uncovered deceitful game developers trying to scam players with 2 fake games listed for sale on Steam, disguised as Helldivers 2, priced at $12.49 and $19.99.

SteamDB records reveal both games were altered at 11:50 AM, changing the game names, descriptions, artwork, even distributor information and developer names were changed to match Helldivers 2. The renamed games were Figurality by SoleOnBoard Studio and Do Not Smile by Whitehole Games, both released on November 4, 2023.

Both games were removed from Steam shortly after being renamed, raising suspicions that they may have been developed by the same team. The scam led to questions about Steam’s approval process, as both games were rebranded by PlayStation PC LLC, even linking to the real PlayStation page on Steam.

The fake Helldivers 2 game page had discrepancies, with the release date not matching the actual game.

TLDR: SteamDB uncovered fake games posing as Helldivers 2, scamming players with altered listings and prices, causing confusion and raising concerns about Steam’s verification process.
