Unveiling Microsoft’s Office 2024: Unconventional Licensing Model without AI Features or Publisher

Microsoft has unveiled Microsoft Office 2024, a perpetual license version of Office that is not a subscription like Office 365/Microsoft 365, which has become the flagship product of Microsoft today. Office 2024 follows the same direction as its predecessor, Office 2021, by incorporating features from Microsoft 365 online for offline use (but without AI features like Copilot that require server-side processing as Office 2024 focuses on offline machine usage) and will no longer include Microsoft Publisher, which has been discontinued.

Office 2024 will come in both consumer and enterprise versions (LTSC) and will be available for both Windows 10/11 and macOS, with long-term support for 5 years. The enterprise version will have a testing phase next month, while the consumer version will announce details later.

TLDR: Microsoft announces Microsoft Office 2024, a non-subscription perpetual license version without AI features, including Microsoft Publisher, with consumer and enterprise versions for Windows and macOS with long-term support.
