Unveiling Ninja Gaiden 4: A Sequel 13 Years in the Making Featuring a New Protagonist and Collaboration with PlatinumGames

2025 marks a surprising year for the gaming industry with the announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4, continuing the storyline from Ninja Gaiden 3 in 2012 (a gap of 13 years).

The development team remains Team Ninja under Koei Tecmo, but this time they have enlisted the help of PlatinumGames. The game directors for this installment are Masakazu Hirayama from Team Ninja and Yuji Nakao from PlatinumGames.

Fumihiko Yasuda, the head of Team Ninja and the producer of this game, expressed a long-standing desire to create a sequel to Ninja Gaiden. With support from Phil Spencer of Microsoft, the game is set to be distributed with the involvement of Koei Tecmo and the CEO of PlatinumGames.

Ninja Gaiden 4 picks up where part 3 left off, introducing a new protagonist named Yakumo who must confront the Dark Dragon that threatens to destroy the city once again. The original series protagonist, Ryu Hayabusa, also plays a role in this game and can be played as well. The theme of the game revolves around a futuristic metropolis combined with rain generated by the power of the Dark Dragon.

Scheduled for a fall 2025 release, Ninja Gaiden 4 will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5. Despite Microsoft’s involvement in distribution, this marks a new direction for them in moving away from exclusive titles.

TLDR:
Ninja Gaiden 4 is set to be released in 2025 with a new protagonist, Yakumo, fighting against the Dark Dragon in a futuristic city setting. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5, signaling a shift in Microsoft’s gaming strategies.
