Nintendo reports its 6-month performance ending in September 2024, with total sales amounting to 5.23 trillion yen, a decrease of 34% compared to the same period last year. Net profit also declined by 61% to 1.47 trillion yen, reflecting the downward trend in revenue. As a result, Nintendo adjusts its full-year sales forecast for the fiscal year 2025 (ending in March 2025) to 1.28 trillion yen, a 5% decrease from the initial projection of 1.35 trillion yen.
The majority of the sales decline stems from the hardware and software categories of the Nintendo Switch, which saw a 34% decrease to 4.85 trillion yen. Nintendo attributes the weakened yen as a contributing factor to the impact. Despite this, Switch sales increased in the previous quarter (July-September) by 31% to 4.72 million units, while software sales reached 70.28 million units, down by 28%. The standout game for the quarter was The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, selling 2.58 million units.
A noteworthy figure is the sales of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the Switch version, which sold a total of 1.94 million units, surpassing the original GameCube version’s 1.91 million units.
