NVIDIA has introduced Earth-2, an API on the NVIDIA DGX Cloud platform specifically designed for weather-related data processing. One of its standout features is the ability to predict and forecast weather data within seconds, compared to current models that provide minute or hourly data and have a radius of 2 kilometers.
Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, emphasized the increasing frequency of weather-related disasters worldwide, with damages currently estimated at $1.4 trillion. The goal of Earth-2’s API is to better prepare individuals for unpredictable weather events.
Earth-2 utilizes NVIDIA’s Generative AI model called CorrDiff, which can generate highly detailed images faster and with less energy consumption, enhancing weather forecasting capabilities.
NVIDIA has announced partnerships with organizations such as the Taiwan Central Weather Bureau for evaluating and warning against dust storms, and The Weather Company for high-resolution image simulations using Earth-2 and Omniverse. Other weather forecasting platforms like Spire, Meteomatics, Tomorrow.io, north.io, and ClimaSens are also in collaboration with NVIDIA.
TLDR: NVIDIA launches Earth-2 API for rapid and precise weather forecasting, aiming to enhance preparedness for weather-related disasters. Partnering with various organizations to utilize the advanced capabilities of the platform.
