Unveiling of Prototype Eyewear: Meta Introduces Project Aria Gen 2 with Enhanced Sensors and Increased Processing Power

Meta has unveiled the prototype Meta Glasses AR version, Project Aria Gen 2, an upgrade from the initial Project Aria launched in 2020. The appearance of Project Aria Gen 2 resembles the camera-equipped Ray-Ban Meta Glasses currently on sale but adds AR features. The glasses’ processing unit will read data from the cameras to provide contextual information, such as location awareness, object recognition, hand-tracking, and deliver information to the user through the built-in speakers.

One significant improvement from its predecessor is the Gen 2 hardware, which boasts significantly enhanced performance. Weighing a total of 75 grams, it features three cameras (RGB, depth sensor, eye-tracking), as well as a multitude of sensors (including a heart rate monitor located near the nose bridge). The device can operate for a duration of 6-7 hours.

Meta has stated that they will allow partners to test out Project Aria Gen 2 in the coming months.

TLDR: Meta introduces Project Aria Gen 2, an upgraded AR glasses prototype with enhanced hardware and additional features, allowing partners to test it out soon.
