Unveiling of Quantum Prototype Ocelot Chip by Amazon Implements Novel Technique for Error Reduction sans Bit Addition

Amazon has unveiled the Ocelot quantum chip prototype developed by the company with the goal of being used to correct errors on quantum with the AWS service.

Amazon states that Ocelot has several highlights, including the Bosonic error correction which outperforms the traditional qubit approach, using Noise-Biased gates to save on hardware size, which is crucial for commercial quantum computing, and a bit-flip time of approximately 1 second.

Ocelot is developed using a qubit technology called Cat, derived from Schrödinger’s cat, claiming to be a method of creating quantum chips that are more resilient to errors without increasing the number of qubits, but by increasing the number of photons in the oscillator, reducing the rate of bit-flip errors significantly. Additionally, adding energy into the oscillator can further reduce errors.
