YouTube has rolled out a new feature for YouTube Premium customers called “Jump ahead,” which can be accessed at youtube.com/new and is only available for YouTube on Android for English language videos and users in the US.
The Jump ahead feature works by allowing users to skip ahead in a video (double tap) where previously it would skip forward 10 seconds. Now, there is an added option of a Jump ahead button. By pressing this button, the video will play the next interesting part in that video.
But how does YouTube know what part is interesting? The answer lies in using AI that studies the behavior of people who have watched the clip before to determine which parts viewers tend to stop watching, and then selects those as the recommended points.
