In the year 2020, Mike Morhaime, the co-founder and former CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, ventured out to establish a new company called Dreamhaven. Bringing along a team from Blizzard, after 4 years Dreamhaven finally unveiled their first game titled Sunderfolk.
Sunderfolk is a turn-based tactical RPG set on a hexagonal grid, with graphics reminiscent of a semi-cartoonish fantasy style (reminiscent of Warcraft in the past). The gameplay shines with using a mobile device as a controller (yes, even with console/PC games) to enable couch co-op, allowing players to play together using the same TV or monitor. The game is designed to evoke the atmosphere of playing board games or traditional tabletop games, but in a digital realm.
The storyline revolves around the village of Arden, where various species must band together to protect the village from external threats. Players can choose from 6 classes (Arcanist, Bard, Berserker, Pyromancer, Ranger, Rogue), manage construction in the village, and embark on adventures outside the village.
Developed by the studio Secret Door, a subsidiary of Dreamhaven (which has two studios), Sunderfolk is set to release around 2025 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch.
