Unveiling the CPU Desktop Elite Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) Sans Gen, Energy-Efficient by 58%

Intel unveils the Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) desktop CPU flagship model of the year, marking the first time Intel’s desktop CPU top tier adopts the Core Ultra brand, following the laptop side trend (bidding farewell to the 14th Gen Gen series).

The Core Ultra 200S still employs the P-Core + E-Core formula like its predecessors, but this time without Hyperthreading (1 core = 1 thread), marking the end of Intel’s long-standing use of Hyperthreading.

New features of the Core Ultra 200S include:
– New P-Core core Lion Cove with a 9% increase in instructions per cycle compared to Raptor Cove in the 14th Gen.
– New E-Core core Skymont with a 32% increase in instructions per cycle compared to Gracemont.

The vertical 3D chip packaging system Foveros reduces energy consumption by 40%. When combined with the energy-saving features of Foveros and the new CPU cores, chip energy usage is significantly reduced, with general tasks seeing up to a 58% reduction (compared to the 14th Gen) and gaming tasks consuming up to 165W less energy, with system temperatures reduced by an average of 14 degrees.

The Xe-LPG GPU (still the same as in Meteor Lake and not Xe2) boasts 4 cores. It features a desktop NPU for the first time, with a performance of 13 TOPS, reaching a total of 36 TOPS with AI capabilities. It supports a total of 24 lanes of PCIe and DDR5-6400 RAM.

The Core Ultra 200S CPU in the first lineup includes a total of 5 sub-models, as rumored, with the K series supporting overclocking and the F series disabling the GPU.
– Core Ultra 9 285K: 8 P-Core + 16 E-core, 24 threads, Turbo Boost Max 5.6GHz, maximum power of 250W
– Core Ultra 7 265K/KF: 8 P-Core + 12 E-core, 20 threads, Turbo Boost Max 5.5GHz, maximum power of 250W
– Core Ultra 5 245K/KF: 6 P-Core + 8 E-core, 14 threads, no Turbo Boost Max support, maximum power of 159W

The Core Ultra 200S CPU is launched alongside the new Intel 800 Series chipset supporting PCIe 4.0 with 24 lanes. The CPU will be available for sale starting October 24, 2024. Next up, Intel will introduce the Core Ultra 200 H & HX series for high-performance gaming laptops in the first quarter of 2025.

TLDR: Intel introduces the Core Ultra 200S desktop CPU with innovative features such as new P-Core and E-Core cores, reduced energy consumption with Foveros packaging, and a range of sub-models catering to different user needs. The CPU will be available for purchase from October 24, 2024.
