Unveiling the Marvels of Super Mario RPG: A Remake Crafted by ArtePiazza, the Enigmatic Studio that Previously Embarked on the Epic Journey of Dragon Quest

In the middle of this year, Nintendo announced the highly anticipated Super Mario RPG Remake, a game originally released in 1996, developed in collaboration with Square Enix. The game is scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

Prior to this announcement, there were not many details about which studio was behind the development of Super Mario RPG Remake. While the original game was developed by Square, the ownership rights belong to Nintendo. However, recent sightings of the game disc revealed that ArtePiazza is the studio responsible for the game’s development. It’s worth noting that Ayako Moriwaki from Nintendo is the game’s director.

ArtePiazza may not be a widely known name among gamers. The studio was founded in 1989 and has worked on several Dragon Quest games for Enix (at the time) and later for Square Enix. Their notable contributions include the original versions of Dragon Quest III and VII, as well as the ported versions of IV, V, and VI. Most recently, they worked on the 2D version of Dragon Quest XI.

Another interesting point is that Ayako Moriwaki will be one of the first female directors at Nintendo. She has been collaborating with Nintendo since 2013, initially as a game coordinator for Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. Her most recent work includes assisting in the direction of Pikmin 4.

It’s also worth mentioning that several members of the original Super Mario RPG team will have their names credited in the remake. This includes Yoshihiko Maekawa, a co-director, Yoko Shimomura, the composer, and designer Taro Kudo.

TLDR: Nintendo has announced the highly anticipated Super Mario RPG Remake, developed in collaboration with Square Enix. The game is set to release on November 17, 2023, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. ArtePiazza, a lesser-known studio, has been revealed as the developer, with Ayako Moriwaki from Nintendo as the game’s director. The remake will include credits for members of the original team, such as Yoshihiko Maekawa and Yoko Shimomura.
