Microsoft recently released the new Xbox Series X just a few days ago, expanding their lineup to a total of 3 sub-models:
– The original Xbox Series X in black, with 1TB storage capacity and disc drive.
– The new Xbox Series X in white, with 1TB storage capacity and no disc drive (Digital Edition).
– The new Xbox Series X in Galaxy Black Special Edition, with 2TB storage capacity and disc drive.
Tech channel Austin Evans got his hands on both new sub-models of the Xbox Series X to test and found that Microsoft has made several hardware upgrades. They have updated the SoC to a 2024 version using a smaller 6nm manufacturing process, resulting in a smaller chip size. The 2TB model also consumes around 10 watts less power during idle compared to the original 2020 hardware. The Digital Edition model has even lower power consumption, up to 23 watts less.
On the motherboard side, there are new design changes with components rearranged and reduced in size. The Digital Edition model no longer includes a disc drive, leaving that area as empty space instead.
TLDR: Microsoft introduced new Xbox Series X models with hardware upgrades and design changes, offering improved performance and lower power consumption.
