Unverified: Instagram Deliberates Launching Unique Reels App to Compete Directly with TikTok

According to BBC, Instagram is considering launching the Reels app as a standalone short-form video app due to the uncertain future of TikTok in the United States. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, reportedly spoke to employees about potential developments this week, as reported by The Information, citing individuals who heard this statement. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, did not immediately respond to BBC for comment on this matter.
Interestingly, this is not a new concept, as in 2018 Meta previously introduced a standalone app called Lasso to compete with TikTok, but it was later shut down.
