Unwilling to Queue: Helldivers 2 Players Resign to Cross-Night Gaming Expedition as Development Team Battles Challenges

Helldivers 2 continues to be a smashing hit with a whopping 400,000 concurrent players recently. However, this surge in popularity has led to issues that the development team must address continuously. The increase in player numbers has caused server problems for the game.

Recently, on the game’s subreddit, it was discovered that some players were willing to stay in the game overnight while being AFK, simply to avoid re-queueing for a new game. This selfish act caused inconvenience to other players waiting to join the game.

Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, the game developer, responded to frustrated players via X, stating that they are aware of this issue and plan to address it by kicking players who AFK for longer than the specified time out of the game.

Server issues are not new to popular games like World of Warcraft during its 2004 launch, Final Fantasy XIV, which had server expansions delayed to the point of temporarily halting game sales, or Pal World, where the CEO decided to increase servers without worrying about costs.

**TLDR:** Helldivers 2’s popularity has caused server issues due to an increase in players, with some resorting to AFK gameplay to avoid re-queueing. The developer plans to address this by implementing measures to remove AFK players. Server problems are not uncommon in popular games, with examples like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV facing similar challenges.
