Unyielding Voyager 1: Nasa points to possible repair with negligible loss

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory team has reported on the progress of troubleshooting the computer issues on Voyager 1 spacecraft since late 2023. Recently, they have successfully dumped out a portion of the memory unit. Upon data analysis, the team suspects that the damage may have originated from a faulty part of the flight data subsystem (FDS).

The damaged memory unit accounts for 3% of the total memory space, with the speculation that the RAM may have deteriorated due to cosmic radiation exposure or simply due to its 46-year lifespan. The repair process may take several weeks or months, however, the team is quite confident that it will be fixed eventually and the computer will be back up and running.
