Google is preparing to add its AI chatbot company, Gemini, for users under the age of 13, who have a guardian overseeing their account through Family Link next week. Google has sent an email notifying parents of the addition of this service to their children.
A Google spokesperson provided additional information that the child-friendly version of Gemini has established additional conditions to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content, ensuring that the data used by the children will not be collected to further train AI.
However, providing children access to AI comes with several concerns. Google further explained in the email that Gemini may make mistakes, therefore, it is recommended for parents to supervise their usage, such as teaching them how to fact-check when receiving answers from Gemini, educating them that Gemini is not a real person, and avoiding sharing personal information with Gemini.
Nevertheless, Google also warned in the email that there is a possibility that Gemini may provide inappropriate answers.
