Samsung showcases the practicality of the Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone as a body camera for on-duty police officers, replacing traditional body cameras. Collaborating with Kimberling City and Indian Point police departments in Missouri, USA, Samsung has introduced new devices to support law enforcement. The compact size and lightweight design of the Galaxy Z Flip make it easy to attach to the officers’ bodies, with a high-quality camera for optimal recording.
The testing devices include custom Galaxy Z Flip 3, 4, and 5 models, in partnership with Visual Labs, specializing in body cameras. The volume adjustment button is repurposed as a video recording button for quick access in emergency situations. Additionally, the mobile camera automatically activates when connected to the dashboard camera in police vehicles, or detects rapid movements indicating a chase. Recorded videos are seamlessly uploaded to the police’s cloud system for real-time viewing at command centers.
In addition to body camera functionality, the mobile device offers other practical uses for law enforcement, such as using various phone features for case management. This includes using voice recording apps during witness interrogations, capturing still images of crime scenes, and tracking officers’ locations via GPS.
Samsung is expanding the use of Galaxy Z Flip smartphones to police stations in 25 cities across the United States.
TLDR: Samsung partners with police departments to use the Galaxy Z Flip as a versatile body camera, enhancing law enforcement operations with its compact design and advanced features.
