Valnet, the new owner of Polygon gaming website, dismisses numerous employees.

Polygon, a once sibling to The Verge, has recently let go of a significant number of employees, including Chris Plante, the co-founder and editor-in-chief of the website.

Founded in 2012 under the Vox Media umbrella alongside The Verge, Polygon changed ownership on March 1, 2025, when Vox Media sold it to Valnet Gaming Group. Valnet Gaming Group is the parent company of several prominent gaming news websites such as Game Rant, DualShockers, TheGamer, and the review aggregator site OpenCritic.

The new owner, Valnet, has not provided a reason for this round of layoffs. It remains unclear how many employees were let go from Polygon and how many remain with the company.

TLDR: Polygon, previously part of Vox Media, was sold to Valnet Gaming Group in March 2025, leading to a significant number of employees, including Chris Plante, being let go. The reasons for the layoffs remain undisclosed.
