Tencent has announced a partnership with Visa to introduce palm authentication payment technology to customers overseas, starting in Singapore with participating banks such as DBS, OCBC, and UOB.
Currently, Tencent offers fingerprint authentication payment technology in China, making this collaboration with Visa the first market test outside of China.
With the Pay by Palm system, customers must verify their identity at the point of sale by scanning their Visa card and palm to record biometric data. Visa then encrypts this data to create a tokenized set, allowing for seamless palm scanning without the need to present a card or phone. This technology even supports data reading in limited lighting conditions.
