Hogwarts Legacy’s success with over 22 million units sold inevitably pushes Warner Bros. Discovery to expand the Harry Potter franchise even further, with their latest game release being Quidditch Champions, a competitive Quidditch game set in the same universe.
Gunnar Wiedenfels, the CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed at a Bank of America conference that a “sequel” to Hogwarts Legacy is definitely in the works. He emphasized that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is of utmost importance to the company in the next 2-3 years.
Although Warner Bros. Discovery had a highly successful year with Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, their gaming business took a hit in 2024 with the poorly received and low-selling game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. This explains why WBD needs to further invest in the Harry Potter franchise, including branching out into riskier territories such as live service games or mobile games.

TLDR: Hogwarts Legacy’s massive success leads to Warner Bros. Discovery expanding the Harry Potter franchise with a sequel, despite some setbacks in their gaming business.
