Whispers of Delay: Apple Delays Smart Home Screen Debut Indefinitely, iOS 19 May Veer Away from AI Features

On Sunday, we were presented with the Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg once again. This time, the news is about Apple confirming a delay in the rollout of new Siri features, indicating a possible complete overhaul. This development has implications for the release timeline of new products.

Previously, there were rumors about a new smart home device called HomePod with a screen, or an iPad with a stand, set to be launched in the early part of this year. However, these plans have been pushed back to the third quarter due to the reliance on the still-incomplete Siri features on Apple Intelligence. Consequently, the smart home device launch will coincide with the completion of the new Siri.

Despite the indefinite delay, Apple has allowed employees to test the devices by taking them home for feedback. The slow progress of Siri, expected to be fully operational in iOS 20, may dampen the excitement for iOS 19, set to debut at WWDC mid-year. Gurman suggests that the announced features may not be AI-related but an extension of the current capabilities of Apple Intelligence, expanding its usage with other apps.

Furthermore, Gurman’s report mentions the development of smart glasses by Apple, which is still under consideration as an alternative to the Vision Pro. However, the company faces several challenges, and the release of these glasses may take place within the next 3-5 years.

TLDR: Apple’s new Siri features are delayed, affecting the release of new products. Rumors suggest a new smart home device and smart glasses in development.
