Xbox Chairman Confirms Launch of Mobile Xbox Store in July; Online Debut Precedes Mobile Release

Sarah Bond, the head of Xbox, announced at the Bloomberg Technology Summit that Microsoft will launch the Xbox Store on mobile devices in July. The mobile version of the Xbox Store will be accessible through a browser and will initially feature games developed by Microsoft itself. Examples of items for sale include in-game items for popular titles like Candy Crush Saga or Minecraft. In the future, the store will be open to other game developers.

Bond explained that the decision to launch the web-based Xbox Store before an app was made to accommodate users across all types of devices, without having to consider platform owner policies. She confirmed that the web version of the Xbox Store is just the first step in Microsoft’s game store creation.
