Seagate Unveils Revolutionary PS5 Game Drive SSD, Starting at $99.99 – Unavailable in Thailand Yet

Seagate has joined the ranks of WD by releasing its own SSD for the PS5, following direct certification from PlayStation. The Seagate Game Drive SSD is the same size as the WD Black SN850P and is a PCIe 4.0 that is compatible with the PS5. It uses the PS5018-E18 PCIe 4.0 SSD controller from Phison, providing read and write speeds of over 7GB/s, along with 12nm chip manufacturing technology from TSMC.

The Seagate Game Drive SSD comes in three storage options: 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. It offers read speeds of 7.3GB/s and write speeds of 6.9GB/s, with random read and write performance reaching up to 1 million IOPS. However, only the 2TB version achieves these levels of performance, while the other capacities may differ in efficiency.

In terms of endurance, the 1TB variant offers 1,275 TBW (Terabytes Written), while the 2TB and 4TB versions boast 2,550 TBW and 5,100 TBW respectively. This makes the Game Drive twice as durable as the WD Black SN850P, which has endurance ratings of 600 TBW, 1,200 TBW, and 2,400 TBW for the respective capacities.

The 1TB and 2TB models of the Game Drive are available for $99.99 and $159.99 respectively. The 4TB variant is priced at $479.99. Overall, the Seagate Game Drive SSD offers a more affordable option compared to WD. However, pricing for Thailand has yet to be revealed.

TLDR: Seagate has launched its own PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD for the PS5, the Seagate Game Drive SSD. It is comparable to the WD Black SN850P in size and performance, but offers better endurance. The Game Drive comes in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities, with prices starting at $99.99. Thailand pricing is yet to be announced.
