After numerous leaks, Naughty Dog has officially unveiled The Last of Us Part II Remastered, set to be released exclusively for the PS5 on January 19, 2024.
The original version of The Last of Us Part II was a critically acclaimed game in 2020 designed for the PS4, but it can also be played on the PS5 (although not fully optimized). Recognizing the need to enhance the game for the newer console, Naughty Dog has made adjustments to ensure it is suitable for the next-generation platform, supporting native 4K graphics and unlocking frame rates for TVs that support VRR.
In addition to the graphical enhancements, the remastered version of the game introduces a new mode called “No Return,” a randomized survival scenario where players can choose from multiple characters with unique abilities. Players have the freedom to choose between an aggressive approach or stealth gameplay. Progressing through the mode unlocks additional characters, skins, and customizable items.
Another fan-requested addition is the “Guitar Free Play” mode, which separates the guitar-playing scenes from TLOU2 into its own dedicated mode. Players can select their desired character and scene to play the guitar.
Existing gamers who own the original version of The Last of Us Part II can upgrade to the Remastered version for $10 and continue their progress using their old save files.
Furthermore, Naughty Dog has released a special collector’s edition called The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F. Edition, which includes a set of Society of Champions cards that are printed and can be collected, consisting of 47 cards.
Looking ahead, players can also anticipate The Last of Us Part II Remastered Complete Edition for PC in 2025, followed by The Last of Us Part II Remake for the PS6.
