Apple’s Product Design Head, Tang Tan, Resigns: Steering the Departures of iPhone and Apple Watch

Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter, has revealed insider information about changes in Apple’s product design management. Tang Tan, the deputy head of product design, is set to leave Apple in February. Currently, he reports directly to John Ternus, the deputy head of hardware engineering. This departure requires some team restructuring.

According to Gurman, the subsequent changes within the design department involve Richard Dinh, the head of iPhone design, moving up to Ternus’ position. Kate Bergeron, who oversees Mac engineering, will take on additional responsibilities and oversee the design of Apple Watch. Furthermore, the team responsible for designing accessories, including AirPods, will now be under the management of Matthew Costello, who is currently in charge of Beats and HomePod.

Tan’s resignation marks another high-level executive departure from Apple within a single week. Prior to this, Steve Hotelling, the deputy head of hardware technology, retired from his position.

TL;DR: Tang Tan, the deputy head of product design at Apple, is leaving the company in February. This departure has led to a restructuring of the design team, with Richard Dinh taking on a new position and Kate Bergeron expanding her responsibilities. Additionally, the accessories design team will now be under the management of Matthew Costello. This follows the recent retirement of Steve Hotelling, the deputy head of hardware technology.
