Unveiling E-sellers on Amazon Leveraging ChatGPT: Eloquently Designing Product Titles Only to be Met with ChatGPT’s Resounding Refusals

It has come to light that some sellers on Amazon have turned to ChatGPT for assistance in writing product names and descriptions. However, upon being denied by ChatGPT due to trademark limitations, these sellers failed to verify the responses received from ChatGPT and used that text for a large number of product listings. As a result, we now have products with descriptions such as “I apologize but I cannot complete this task” or similar wording.

These products encompass a variety of types, including furniture. Once these items were discovered, Amazon promptly removed them (though they can still be viewed on the Internet Archive).

This issue raises questions about the suitability of using AI chatbots for automated tasks like this. After all, Amazon itself does not have a policy prohibiting the use of language model models (LLMs) for writing product descriptions. Furthermore, they even released their own tool to assist with writing descriptions. Perhaps what may be more important is Amazon’s method of screening or filtering, to prevent such instances of rejection texts from appearing in their system.

TLDR: Some Amazon sellers used ChatGPT to write product names and descriptions, but when ChatGPT refused and provided rejection texts due to trademark limitations, these sellers used them without verification. Amazon swiftly removed the listings, prompting questions about the suitability of AI chatbots for automated tasks and the need for effective screening measures.
