Fairphone, a phone manufacturer that emphasizes environmental sustainability, has unveiled the Fairphone 5. The key feature of this phone is its extended support, which will last until 2031, a total of 8 years. Additionally, it has a design that allows users to easily replace the battery themselves.
The specifications of the Fairphone 5 include a FullHD+ display with a resolution of 1224×2700 pixels, measuring 6.46 inches. It has a refresh rate of 90Hz and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The main camera boasts 50 megapixels with an 84.1-degree field of view, while the wide-angle camera also has 50 megapixels but with a 117-degree field of view. It is equipped with a ToF sensor that supports 4K video at 30fps and can capture slow-motion footage at up to 240fps. The front-facing camera, housed within the display, is a 50-megapixel camera with a 90-degree field of view.
The operating system of the Fairphone 5 is expected to be Android 13, with an anticipated update to Android 5 in the future. It is powered by the Qualcomm QCM 6490 octa-core processor and comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, expandable with a microSD card. The phone is equipped with a replaceable 4200mAh battery.
Other notable features of the Fairphone 5 include a nano-SIM slot with support for eSIM, allowing for dual system usage, and a USB 3.0 port that can be replaced. The phone weighs 212 grams and is IP55 water-resistant, capable of withstanding water droplets.
The Fairphone 5 will begin shipping on September 14th, with a price tag of 699 euros.
