Globes, a business news website from Israel, reports that Intel has laid off employees at its research center in Israel, totaling “several hundreds,” in an effort to cut costs. Intel announced a plan to lay off 15% of its workforce starting in August, with the layoffs in Israel being a part of this overall process. Intel has both research centers and chip manufacturing facilities in Israel, employing a total of 11,000 people. The layoffs primarily occurred at the research center, with approximately 7,000 employees, as per Globes. It is noted that these employees have already received compensation packages from Intel and are now seeking new employment opportunities.
Among the new opportunities is NVIDIA, which also has offices in Israel employing around 4,000 people. According to information from LinkedIn profiles of Intel employees in Israel, at least 30 employees have transitioned from the blue camp to the green camp smoothly. It is anticipated that 60-90 more employees may follow suit in the coming months. Considering the recent round of layoffs, the numbers may exceed 100 individuals.
Other companies that have received Intel employees include Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Huawei, all of which have offices in Israel, along with Mobileye, a subsidiary of Intel focusing on automotive chips.
