Cutting-edge collaboration between True Corporation and CAT Telecom’s DE IP Phuket leading the way in testing state-of-the-art simulated disaster alert system LIVE – Cell Broadcast Service in Phuket.

True Corporation Public Company Limited (TRUE) the leading telecommunications-technology company in Thailand, in collaboration with the Digital Economy and Society Ministry (DE) and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), along with the province of Phuket, conducted a real-world test of the Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) emergency alert system via mobile phones. This initiative aims to enhance safety in the key tourist city of Southern Thailand and instill confidence in both Thai and foreign visitors. TRUE, as the responsible party for emergency alerts, or Cell Broadcast Center (CBC), is preparing to connect the testing system with DDPM, which oversees emergency alerts, or Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE), on the actual Live Network in an end-to-end fashion to ensure readiness before the official launch.

Based on the latest data from Phuket Provincial Statistical Office in 2023, Phuket welcomed over 11.3 million tourists, with 8.4 million being international visitors and 2.9 million domestic tourists, generating a tourism revenue of 388.017 billion Baht, ranking as the second highest province in Thailand after Bangkok. Furthermore, Phuket’s prominence has gained international recognition, being named by Bounce website as the “Best Island Destination” in the world this year. With such significance, TRUE Corporation, in partnership with DE and DDPM, selected Phuket as the testing ground for the CBS emergency alert system to further bolster security and confidence for visitors in this pearl of Andaman, elevating its status as a top global tourist destination.

Mr. Jakkrat Uraisran, Executive of TRUE Corporation, proudly shared the progress in developing the Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) test in Phuket, stating, “TRUE Corporation is proud to collaborate with DE, DDPM, and Phuket in conducting the CBS testing in Phuket. This marks a significant step towards enhancing the public safety of Thai citizens. This testing showcases the power of collaboration from all sectors and builds upon the success of the initial CBS testing in Bangkok last July.”

Phuket’s selection as the second province to conduct a real-life testing of CBS emergency alert system is a significant milestone for Thailand in improving disaster preparedness, particularly in handling natural disasters such as tsunamis, storms, or earthquakes. The system can deliver instant alerts to all mobile devices in the area at risk without the need for registration, supporting multilingual displays in both text and speech notifications for accessibility.

The CBS system tested by TRUE Corporation boasts five key advantages:
– Swift delivery: Instant dissemination of emergency messages upon occurrence
– Precision: Accurate targeting of designated areas for message delivery
– Universality: Broadcasting messages to all users in the at-risk area without registration
– Global standardization: Recognized and used in multiple countries worldwide
– Multilingual support: Designing alerts in various languages and simultaneous delivery

The LIVE Cell Broadcast Service testing in Phuket is a crucial step for Thailand in leveling up safety measures to align with international standards, signifying close collaboration between TRUE Corporation, DE, DDPM in enhancing the security infrastructure. As TRUE functions as the Cell Broadcast Center (CBC), it will continue to integrate the testing system with DDPM, playing the role of Cell Broadcast Entity (CBE) on the Live Network in a comprehensive manner to ensure preparedness for future operations.

TLDR: TRUE Corporation, in partnership with government agencies, conducted a successful real-world test of the Cell Broadcast Service emergency alert system in Phuket, showcasing the advancements in public safety and disaster response capabilities.
