Revamp Your Email Experience with Microsoft 365’s Latest Outlook Update: Switch Between Default and Classic Outlook Effortlessly

Microsoft has begun installing New Outlook as the default option for Microsoft 365 customers who install software on new desktops, with the latest version 2502 rolling out in March 2025.

Administrators can also switch this setting back to Classic Outlook, or choose to install both Outlook versions simultaneously if desired.

Microsoft announced by the end of 2024 that they will start migrating organizational customers from Classic Outlook to New Outlook in April 2026 (Classic Outlook will be supported until at least 2029).

Microsoft’s current recommendation is to install both Outlook versions side by side while waiting for New Outlook to develop features that are currently missing from Classic Outlook, such as offline access (.pst) and Mail merge with Word.

TLDR: Microsoft is transitioning customers from Classic Outlook to New Outlook, allowing for side by side installation of both versions for a smooth migration process.
