During the latest quarterly earnings report, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, revealed that Waymo’s autonomous taxi service has surpassed 250,000 paid trips per week in the United States, up from 200,000 trips in March.

Pichai mentioned that Waymo’s business model will evolve as it expands globally, potentially partnering with companies like Uber in certain cities. He also discussed long-term business plans, hinting at the possibility of transforming personal vehicles into autonomous taxis by installing Waymo’s self-driving technology.

Unlike Tesla, which relies on camera-based technology, Waymo’s autonomous vehicles utilize LiDAR technology for navigation and perception.
