Amazon’s Wondery Expels Employees in Content and Advertising Department

Wondery, a podcast production company now under the Amazon umbrella, has confirmed layoffs within its content production and advertising departments. In early February, Wondery also closed its offices in Brazil and Mexico.

Amazon acquired Wondery in 2020, although the official value of the deal was not disclosed, reports suggest it was around $300 million. Last year, the company made a significant mark in the podcast market with the signing of a $100 million, 3-year contract for the show “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce,” featuring the famous American football siblings.

Established in 2016, Wondery has produced a variety of podcasts such as “Dirty John,” “Dr. Death,” “Business Wars,” and “The Shrink Next Door,” which has been adapted into a mini-series for Apple TV+.

TLDR: Amazon-owned Wondery announces layoffs and office closures, following a successful year in podcast production and a high-profile deal with sports personalities.
