Before the launch of the Wonderlust app’s iPhone 15, Bloomberg reports that there will be an Indian-assembled model of the iPhone 15 available for sale on the first day of the release. Previously, the initial batch of sales had to be manufactured in China before the Indian factory’s batch could be sold.
This change reflects Apple’s effort to address supply chain issues and reduce dependence on Chinese factories. It enables Indian factories to start assembling the new model right from the beginning, as rumored earlier this year. However, for the iPhone 14 last year, it took approximately 6-8 weeks after the launch for the Indian-assembled model to become available for purchase.
Nevertheless, the Indian factory is not yet responsible for assembling all models of the iPhone 15. Currently, only the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will be assembled in India. The higher-priced models, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will still be manufactured in China as the primary factory. India’s contribution to iPhone production accounts for approximately 7% of global sales.
