Announcement: Mira Murati Quits OpenAI in a CTIO Role

Mira Murati, the CTO of OpenAI, has announced her resignation from the company after working here for 6 and a half years. She stated that she is leaving to make time and space for self-discovery.

This was a very difficult decision for Murati. Moving forward, her focus will be on ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities and authority to ensure everything continues to operate seamlessly.

Mira Murati is the latest high-level executive to depart from OpenAI this year. Other key executives who have left include Ilya Sutskever, one of the co-founders of OpenAI, Jan Leike, the head of AI safety team, and John Schulman, a founding member who moved to Anthropic.

Murati’s name became widely known when she was appointed as the interim CEO of OpenAI during the CEO fallout with Sam Altman, only to later return to her original position as CTO.

TLDR: Mira Murati, the CTO of OpenAI, has resigned after 6.5 years to focus on self-discovery. She aims for a smooth transition of responsibilities.
