Shuhei Yoshida, a key figurehead in the Japanese realm of PlayStation, has announced his retirement after 31 years of service with PlayStation. Yoshida was part of the team behind the creation of the PS1 led by Ken Kutanagi since 1993. His initial tasks involved negotiating with various game studios in Japan, which led him to grow in the software industry and take on prominent roles at PlayStation press conferences. He held the highest position as Head of PlayStation Studios overseeing all game studios during the PS3/PS4 era. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of Head of Indies Initiative, focusing on independent game developers outside the studio business. This group of developers he aimed to support achieved success with the award-winning game Journey, surpassing many AAA titles.
After completing 30 years of work, Yoshida felt it was time to explore other opportunities. The new PlayStation management team is robust enough to continue without him, allowing him to retire officially from Sony Interactive Entertainment on January 15, 2025.
