Apple announces support timeline for iPhone 15 with security patches for a minimum of 5 years.

In the past, Apple has never explicitly announced how long iPhones will receive security patch support, even though Apple’s track record in providing long-term support is relatively good. However, there is now more clarity on this issue, as the United Kingdom recently introduced the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure regulation requiring internet-connected device manufacturers to disclose their security patch policy, including iPhones.

Apple has complied with this regulation, stating that the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is set to launch in September 2023, will receive a minimum of five years of support after its release. This marks the first time Apple has clearly stated this figure, allowing for transparency.

While in practice, the support lifespan of the iPhone 15 may exceed this minimum, it still falls short compared to industry competitors such as Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy, which offer support for up to 7 years.
