Apple CEO, Tim Cook, Affirms No Financial Settlement Talks for the Patent Infringement Lawsuit of the Apple Watch with Masimo

In a recent interview with CNBC, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, addressed the issue regarding the ban imposed by the ITC on the sale of the latest Apple Watch models in the United States. The ban specifically targets the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra, as these models allegedly infringe on Masimo’s patent for a blood oxygen measuring system.

Cook stated that Apple has no plans to settle the matter by paying licensing fees to Masimo. Instead, the company has chosen to fight this case and is currently in the process of filing an appeal to the ITC. Although Apple temporarily resolved the issue by disabling the feature in question on their Apple Watches, Cook reiterated that the company will not negotiate to resolve this problem.

In addition, Cook highlighted that there are numerous reasons why customers choose to purchase the Apple Watch, even without the blood oxygen sensor. This implies that although this particular feature may be significant to some, it is not the sole determining factor for the device’s appeal.

Previously, Joe Kiani, the CEO of Masimo, revealed in an interview that Apple had engaged in negotiations to acquire their business since 2013 or collaborate in developing the blood oxygen measuring technology. However, no deals were reached, and Masimo is open to negotiation if Apple is willing to compensate for the damages caused.

TLDR: Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, discussed the recent ban on the sale of certain Apple Watch models in the United States due to a patent dispute. Apple has chosen to fight the case instead of settling and has temporarily disabled the disputed feature. The CEO emphasized that customers have various reasons for purchasing the Apple Watch. Joe Kiani, the CEO of Masimo, stated that Apple had previously engaged in negotiations to acquire their business or collaborate on developing the technology but no agreement was reached.
