Apple’s Software Overhaul for Apple Watch: Safeguarding Against US Injunctions, a Patent Infringement Predicament

The recent report from Bloomberg by Mark Gurman reveals that Apple is facing a setback in the United States with the suspension of sales for its latest Apple Watch models. This decision was prompted by an order from the ITC, which demanded a halt to imports and sales in the country due to patent infringement on Masimo’s blood oxygen level sensor. Apple intends to address this issue through software updates.

According to insider sources, Apple’s team of engineers is currently working on refining the method of measuring blood oxygen levels and improving the way data is displayed to users. These two aspects are believed to be the key points of contention in terms of infringing on Masimo’s patent. Once these areas have been addressed, it is anticipated that Apple will be able to resume selling its Apple Watch models in the United States.

However, a representative from Masimo informed Gurman that the patent infringement claim is related to hardware, and therefore, it may not be easily resolved through software updates. On the other hand, Apple’s representative stated that they are actively seeking a solution to this problem.

TLDR: Apple has temporarily halted sales of its latest Apple Watch models in the US due to patent infringement concerns raised by Masimo. The company is working on resolving the issue through software updates, hoping to resume sales soon. However, Masimo claims that the infringement involves hardware, which may pose a challenge for Apple.
