Subsequently, a single unlabeled target image was displayed, and participants had to decide whether it was friendly or hostile, determining whether to engage or withdraw. Following their decision, the robot provided feedback and the possibility of changing their minds.
Prior to the simulation, researchers displayed images of innocent civilians, including children, suffering from drone attacks, urging participants to treat the simulation as if it were a real-life scenario. This created increased uncertainty in decision-making, with initial accuracy at around 70%, decreasing to approximately 50% by the final decision after receiving potentially unreliable advice from the robot.
Professor Colin Holbrook, lead researcher, cautioned, “As a society, we must be wary of placing too much trust in AI, particularly as it rapidly evolves.
